Kutšn Ta Lama, Kuten Ta Lama
Born 1894 Died 1945
Oracle Nechung Ta Lama. Personal name Lobsang Namgyal. Born 1894. Was a junior official in the Shš office and in 1934, was appointed State Oracle and given the title of Ta Lama. His monastery is at Ne-chhung which is connected with Drepung Monastery. He is consulted on certain occasions by all the high officials of Lhasa. In 1934 degraded to the rank of an ordinary monk. It was alleged that he made some mistakes about the Dalai Lama's medicine, and that this was the cause of His Holiness' death. He called on the Political Officer in 1936. His predecessors had never visited British officers. An intelligent, friendly and sociable monk. He has privately expressed the wish to retire as his duties are a severe strain on his health but he is so highly esteemed as an Oracle that it is unlikely he will be allowed to do so. He is addressed as Kutšn Ta Lama. Died on 11th June, 1945.
