The official diary of the Gould mission to Lhasa sent by the British government. Read more about the mission diary.
All day there was a stream of visitors bringing presents and there were also many cypher telegrams, to deal with. The Official Oracle sent a present and greetings, an invitation to return soon, and regrets that, owing to pressure of New Year duties, he could not call in person. Chapman snatched intervals to seize a last opportunity to take some photographs which were needed to round off our collection. Clerks and orderlies were busy all day packing presents. Morgan did a round of calls on his own. In the evening Gould and Chapman went to say goodbye to the Tsarongs.
