Sikh soldiers in the mounted escort formed from the 13th Frontier Force, which resided at the Fort in Gyantse while the British Trade Agency was there. Here the soldiers are lined up adjacent to one of the temples in Gyantse Monastery. The walls of the monastery precinct can be seen on the hillside above
