A monk dancer emerges from the main building of Tengoling Monastery, near Gyantse. Crowds are seated around and above the entrance, and A. J. Hopkinson's companion Captain Dean, who commanded the Sikh troops at Gyantse, can be seen with his legs sticking out of the main balcony, striving to get a good view of events. Hopkinson gives a long description of this event in his journal letters [see Notes]
