A view southwards from the British Fort at Gyantse showing the the river that passed by close to the fort, which was situated some way outside Gyantse town. Whitewashed buildings can be seen in the distance on the left with further buildings beyond to the foothills of the nearby mountains. Children can be seen close to the river bank, watching the photographer. The raised soil in front of the fort marks the edge of the road that leads towards the building and on into Gyantse
