Monks and spectators watching a procession of mounted lay officials below the Potala beside the shrine with the sloping roof which was situated beside the Sho pillar. This was at the time of a rehearsal of the Dalai Lama's return to Lhasa. The staircase leading up to the eastern courtyard of the Potala can be seen in the background.
