A procession of horsemen with drums on either side of their saddles on their way round the Barkhor to the front entrance of the Jokhang. They are part of the procession which accompanied the young Dalai Lama on his entry to Lhasa and his visit to the Jokhang. Horses and spectators line the street.

Other Information - Setting: Hugh Richardson recalls this day in Simon Normanton's Tibet: The Lost Civilisation, 1988, London: Hamish Hamilton, "Two days later he [the Dalai Lama] was brought in state into Lhasa. In the Jo-Khang he was initiated as a monk and assumed names which mean 'The Holy One, The Gentle Glory, Powerful in Speech, Pure in Mind, Holder of the Faith, Ocean of Wisdom'." (p.130)
