Other Information - Setting

Other Information - Setting: "We followed [the welcoming party] through a most attractive wooden gateway into a large cobbled courtyard where a crowd of monks welcomed us. Behind carved pillars there was an ambulatory right round the yard with ancient looking frescoes on the walls ... A fine pony was tied to a pole in the centre of the court; many dogs prowled around. // ... [After tea with the Abbot] We then wandered round the outside of the monastery, and returned to the yard where we took photos of the monks. They enjoyed this thoroughly. " ['Lhasa: The Holy City', F. Spencer Chapman, London: Chatto & Windus, 1938, pp. 25-6] [MS 09/03/2006]
