Playing seven-a-side football on a field near the Norbu Lingka. The Mission had a football team and often played amongst themselves or against local teams such as Lhasa United or the Ladakhi Mohammedans.

Other Information - Related Images: Images prefixed with 'C.12' comprise a group of negatives containing images of Ladakhi men, Ngagchen Rimpoche, Mir/Amir Khan (the mission cook), a football match, Dagg, Kham dancers, Nechung, Drepung, Potala and the sand track approaching it. They all seem to have been taken between October 28th and November 15th 1936. The images of the football match are therefore datable to November 9th 1936 [MS 22/03/2006]

Other Information - Setting: Mission Diary entry for November 9th 1936: "First round of seven-a-side football. It was uncomfortably hot playing. Every day now the temperature rises well above 60 [degrees] F. but at night there are ten to fifteen degrees of frost" ['Lhasa Mission, 1936: Diary of Events', Part IX p. 1, written by Chapman] [MS 22/03/2006]
