Notes on print/mount - 'Ngagchhen Rim po-che' has been written beneath the image in the album in pencil, apparently not by Hugh Richardson [MS 12/06/2006]
Manual Catalogues - Caption in Chapman's hand-written list of negatives made whilst on the Mission to Lhasa, 1936-7 [See PRM Manuscripts Collection]: 'Ditto [Ngagchen Rimpoche] on horse' [MS 27/03/2006]
Other Information - Album: This image appears alongside two others of the Taring Rinpoche and Mondo on page 26 of Hugh Richardson's album 'Lhasa 1936' [MS 12/06/2006]
Other Information - Related Images: Images prefixed with 'C.3.' comprise a group of negatives containing images of Lhasa and Dekyi Lingka, especially ‘air views’, as well as two images of the Ngagchen Rinpoche mounting his horse, apparently at the Dekyi Lingka. This has enabled dating of the image to the period August 31st - September 2nd 1936. [MS 27/03/2006]
Other Information - Setting: Mission Diary entry for September 2nd 1936: "Nagachen Rimpoche apologized for not having called before, but said he had thought it best to wait until all the government officials had called. He had a two hours interview with the Political Officer discussing the question of the Tashi Lama's return to Tibet. It was found very difficult to pin him down to any definite statements as to the Tashi Lama's demands and policy. He was in fact very evasive and showed little inclination to come to terms with the Lhasa Government, against whom he was full of complaints. // Nagachen Rimpoche brought presents for all the members of the mission, cloissone vases, china, silk and rugs" ['Lhasa Mission, 1936: Diary of Events', Part V p. 1, written by Neame] [MS 27/03/2006]
