Other Information - The contact print of this image is distinctive for having been printed out on Agfa Lupex paper and also for having a highly decorative edge, created by using a specialist guillotine. There are 15 prints of this type in the Richardson collection in the Pitt Rivers Museum, and they all relate to scenes in and around Lhasa, or en route to the city, and to have been taken between 1936-8. This was the time at which Richardson first used a Zeiss Super Ikonta camera, with which he took his 6x9 images and the attention to detail in decorating the print edge may reflect his early enthusiasm for this relatively new camera and its products [MS 17/12/2005]
