Other Information - Related Images

Other Information - Related Images: Bell does not distinguish in his list of illustrations between H.65a and H.65b [1998.285.71 & 1998.285.72]. However, the images are in fact quite different and may even be of different faces of the Doring as in 1998.285.72 mountains and trees are visible in the background, and in 1998.285.71 the face of the pillar seems to have been chipped on the central right-hand side. The lantern slide succeeds in making much more of the inscription visible and was made from 1998.285.72 [MS 14/5/2004]

Other Information - Setting

Other Information - Setting: Bell's Diary for 3rd May 1921:"Tri-mon Shape is making copies of the Lhasa, ie: Tsuk Lha-khang, Doring for me, and apparently of the Sho Doring also. He has had parts of them rubbed with oil to make the letters clearer. The translations into Tibetan of the Chinese inscriptions on the Tsuk Lha-khang Doring, made for the Simla Conference, 1913-14, were made by the Chinese interpreter to the Ka-sha." [Vol. X., p.47]
