Manual Catalogues - Bell's List of Illustrations entry: "[No. of chapter] XVII. [Subject of Chapter] The Tenantry. [Subject of Illustration] P.128 (l) Yaks ploughing near Ganden. On their heads are red tufts of yak hair, above these tufts of white sheep wool and on the tops sprays of cocks' feathers. On the neck and nostrils strings of cowries. On the right horns again tufts of yak hair. Behind the plough a man sowing, which is unusual, for women usually sow. [Remarks] L.81"
Other Information - Related Images: The negative glass plate from which this lantern slide has been made is not in the PRM Collection [MS 23/8/2004]
Other Information - Photographer: This image, which was originally made using a Postcard-sized negative, may have been taken by Lt Col Robert Kennedy, the Medical Officer on Bell's 1920-21 mission, who seems to have preferred to use this size of negative [MS 25/02/2006]
Other Information - Dates: In his Diary for this day, Bell mentions that whilst on a tour to Ganden monastery, photographs of decorated yaks were taken [Diary Vol. X, pp. 4 - 6] [MS 25/02/2006]
