Bell's List of Illustrations entry for H.44: "[No. of chapter] III. [Subject of Chapter] Mountains, Rivers, Lakes, Climate, Rainfall and Trade Routes. [Subject of illustration] H 44(u) Yamdro Lake from near Yarsik. High snow mountains in the background. The one to the right being Ku-La Kangri, over 25,000 feet, that to the left, a nearer one apparently of very great height. This latter is not marked on the maps"
Other Information - Related Images: In Bell's List of Illustrations he does not distinguish H44a [1998.285.45] and H44b [1998.285.46] but gives only one entry. H.44. 1998.285.46 appears to have been taken to give a clearer view of the mountains that Bell describes, which are difficult to discern in 1998.285.45
Other Information - Dates: Bell travelled on this route in 1920-21 on his way to and from Lhasa. However, in his diary of October 25th he states that he and Rabden had taken photographs of Kula Kangri [MS 21/9/2004]
