Manual Catalogues - Bell's List of Illustrations entry: "[No. of chapter] IV. [Subject of Chapter] History up to 1900 [Subject of Illustration] H.322 (sdu) Ditto [Potala Sho Doring], inscription on lower portion of northern face. [Where placed - book page] I,272. [Remarks] L.33"
Other Information - Related Images: The image and the caption cross-refer to H.65/1998.285.71 & 1998.285.72, which depict the inscription on the north face of the Potala Sho Doring upper portion [MS 22/6/2004]
Technical Information - This lantern slide was made by projecting the negative image through an enlarger [MS 19/8/2004]
Notes on print/mount - '18' has been written on the surround in faded blue black ink. These numbers seem to relate to a sub-set of the lantern slides which were used for lantern lectures on 'A Year in Lhasa' and 'The Dalai Lama'. This slide seems to have been used as slide 18A in the lecture 'A Year in Lhasa', which was first presented at the Royal Geographical Society on 3rd December 1923. The text, with a lesser number of images, was later published in The Geographical Journal of February 1924. Bell may also have presented this lecture on other occasions about which we have no information at present. [MS 10/9/2004]
