Manual Catalogues - Bell's List of Illustrations entry for H.105: "[No. of chapter] XVI. [Subject of Chapter] The Aristocracy. [Subject of Illustration] H105 (p) Back of Trimon Shappe's house, Lhasa"
Other Information - Related Images: Bell does not distinguish between H.105a and H.105b [1998.285.120 and 1998.285.121] in his List of Illustrations, both images being referenced by the caption for H.105. However, 1998.285.120 is a re-photograph of 1998.285.121, which has cropped the right-hand side of the image so that the view of mountains in the background is no longer discernible. This seems to have the effect of enclosing the courtyard and thus defining the domestic space as a more contained environment. [MS 18/5/2004]
