'Tibet Past & Present', Sir Charles Bell, Oxford: The Clarendon Press, 1924 [view list of illustrations]
Manual Catalogues - Bell's List of Illustrations entry: "[No. of chapter] VII. [Subject of Chapter] The Regent and Central Government. [Subject of illustration] H91 (l) Postal hut a few miles out of Gyantse on the road to Lhasa. [where placed - book page] I,176. [Remarks] L.58 [lantern slide 58"
Contemporary Publication - Published in 'Tibet Past & Present', Bell, C. A., Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1924, facing p.176:" Tibetan postal service. Changing couriers on the Gyantse-Lhasa road"
Other Information - Dates: This photograph was probably taken in the later years of Bell's career in the region, maybe even in 1920 when he was in Gyantse collecting information for his books and awaiting permission to go to Lhasa. This is suggested by the manner in which the plate has been developed and the type of plate [MS 23/9/2004]
