Other Information

Notes on print/mount - 'CA.37' has been written on the back of the print in pencil, as has 'F. S. Chapman', apparently in Chapman's own hand. Another number, possibly '137' appears also to have been written on the back and then cut through, making the number partially indecipherable [MS 09/03/2006]

Other Information - Setting

Other Information - Setting: "[We] walked up to the Agency, which overlooks the village - a lovely long low-roofed bungalow with a glass verandah in front. It possesses a most heavenly garden: the drive bordered by riotous masses of nasturtiums, green lawns, a pergolah of rambling roses in full bloom, a paved garden with huge pansies, lupins, ... all you could wish for. I should have liked to live there. ... The rest house is very comfortable and lies on the other side of the river. On this side are the village, the barracks, the Agency, the Post Office" ['Lhasa: The Holy City', F. Spencer Chapman, London: Chatto & Windus, 1938, p.28]
