Went out into the valleys near Gyantse. Found an old ruined house near head of the valley, Chu Nulla, where could see all the side nullas. Went hunting [A. J. Gyantse. Had arranged to visit Dorje Phamo on this day. Vance and Sangster were ill and so Mlle Lafugie accompanied him. Saw her at Nye Ning Monastery [Nyenying][A. J. Hopkinson Archive, OIOC British Library, Mss Eur D998/54, Journal Letters from Gyantse and Various Camps, 1927-28, commencing June 26th 1927, Gyantse, pages 3-4]. Were met by “my old friend” the Monk official who acts as her Doctor. Writes description [ibid., pp. 4-6]. “After I had been there 10 minutes I got the Rimpoche to allow Mlle Lafugie to draw her portrait. Then they asked us to photo a charming little nephew of Rimpoche’s outside. This ended by our going downstairs to photo the hole boiling in the Porch. They kept us waiting quite half an hour, putting on their glad rags, and then they did come down and to my surprise I found that the Incarnation had come all that way down too!” [ibid. p.6]. Hopkinson later comments that the portrait by Mlle Lafugie was taken away while the photography was taking place [ibid., p. 9]

Great Arrow Shooting Competition at Gyantse at the Paper Factory, 10 minutes away from the Fort. Had lunch with Nishup. Writes description of crowd and event [A. J.
